Timpview High School senior Jane Hedengren has been named the 2024-25 Gatorade National Cross Country Player of the Year, becoming the first girl in Utah to earn this prestigious, national honor in cross country. It’s an achievement capping a high school career punctuated with record-breaking performances and deep-seeding community contributions.
Hedengren’s historic season included a commanding victory at Nike Cross Nationals, where she clocked a course-record time of 16:32.7, winning by a meet-record 41-second margin. She similarly dominated the Nike Cross Southwest Regionals, setting a meet record of 15:50.1. A three-time state champion, Hedengren led Timpview to a team title at the UHSAA Class 5A state meet with a time of 16:21.5, breaking her personal record.
“No one else ever had a chance,” said Rich Gonzalez of PrepCalTrack. “She won the strongest national races of the year in record time, overwhelming her rivals and establishing herself as the nation’s premier talent in 2024.”
Alongside athletic achievements, Hedengren holds a 3.75 GPA and continues to contribute to her community as a volunteer with the Road Runner Junior Club as a coach and race day official, assembles engineering kits at BYU, and participates in her church’s service initiatives.
As part of the Gatorade Player of the Year program, Hedengren will have the opportunity to donate a grant to a social impact partner, joining the program’s ongoing efforts to break down barriers in sports.
