Roses are red, violets are blue, Sunrise preschoolers are sorting colors – how about you?

Preschoolers in Ms. Alyssa’s class at Sunrise Preschool have been practicing sorting colors this past week. They have been doing this through pasting different colored shapes onto sheets of paper with the correlating color title. Through this practice, the students are not only learning colors, but are learning foundational skills for math concepts. Learning to sort items by attributes proves to provide a solid foundation for future math learning concepts.

Sunrise Preschool is located in Provo Peaks Elementary School and is one of Provo City School District’s four preschools. Through providing preschool, Provo City School District’s mission is to provide high quality and developmentally appropriate preschool experiences for children in our community. The focus of the preschool programs are cognitive development, social-emotional development and physical development.

Students at Sunrise Preschool were able to practice cognitive development as they practiced sorting their colors earlier this week. Parents were told that they can continue to reinforce these valuable sorting skills in the home by having their children help sort silverware or laundry. As students continue to learn and reinforce these lessons, they will begin to develop skills that will help them throughout their life and set a foundation for their educational path.
