Preschoolers in Ms. Keirsa’s class are getting messy as they learn with sensory tables in their classroom.
A sensory table is essentially a table full of objects that allows for students to utilize all 5 senses. It provides a valuable learning opportunity in which students are able to strengthen their fine motor skills, cognitive skills, language skills and also gives the students a calm sense of balance. They get to interact with and manipulate the objects on table in any way that they prefer.
The most recent sensory table included supplies such as crimped paper, fake leaves, ribbon, plastic pumpkins and many more objects. This sensory table allowed the students a chance to explore different textures and have experience with various colors.
Not only do sensory tables provide students with a sensory encounter, but also help them exercise their social skills as they interact with the students at the table.
All in all, this is a great preschool activity that allows students to strengthen many different educational and developmental skills in a way that is meaningful to each individual student.
