Utah State Senator Howard Stephenson was welcomed to Wasatch Elementary School by Principal Rene Cunningham for a school visit on May 1, 2017.
Senator Stephenson was accompanied on the visit by his son, Dan Stephenson, a Chinese speaker, and two Chinese colleagues: Mr. Huang Jinsong and Dr. Lu Qing from the Qtone Education Group. Principal Rene Cunningham, Assistant Principal Heather Slaymaker, and Provo DLI coordinator Jamie Leite led the group in visiting Chinese classrooms in first, third, and sixth grades.
The group also visited a third grade classroom working on Imagine Learning and concluded the visit by visiting the Wasatch art show. Senator Stephenson and his group expressed genuine excitement at the innovation and learning happening in Provo City School District.
Wasatch Elementary is proud to be a Chinese dual language immersion school. Over 600 students in Provo City School District have begun their Chinese studies through their elementary immersion program. The Chinese teachers at Wasatch are leaders across the state and country. We are fortunate to have them in our school district!
