“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall”. We all know this classic nursery rhyme by heart, but have you heard the after story to this tale? The Students at Amelia Earhart Elementary sure do. During the Amelia Earhart Literacy Society of Scholars, students sat and listened as this month’s book, “After Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again” was read aloud.
This literary program at Amelia Earhart provides students with more opportunities to read and develop a greater desire to do so. This is accomplished each month as different books are selected for the students to read and discuss. During Friday’s discussion, the students talked about the courage Humpty Dumpty must have had to get back up on the wall after his fall. This book taught that while we all face fears in life, it is important to keep trying to overcome them.
When Humpty Dumpty overcame his fears, he realized that even though he’s experienced bumps, bruises and cracks in his shell, that shouldn’t keep him from his true potential. To illustrate this, students participated in an activity where they created their own puzzles. Students drew their talents directly onto the pieces so that when they put the puzzle together, it displays what they’re good at, or in other words: their potential.
As this program continues, each student at the school will have the opportunity to participate in fun activities and expand their love for reading.
