Dr. Steve Oliverson’s Profile
Dr. Stephen Oliverson has been a successful school administrator on every level K-12 over his twenty-seven year career, and he is in his twelfth year as Principal of Provost Elementary School. Dr. Oliverson has been recognized as Principal-of-the-Year, a District National Distinguished School Principal, Utah Innovator-of-the-Year, and recipient of the 2016 Huntsman Excellence-In-Education Award for the state of Utah. Dr. Oliverson’s school, Provost Elementary, attained the designation of National Distinguished Title-I School, and he has been a featured speaker at state and national conventions. His training includes a B.A. and M.A. in Special Education and Emotional Disorders (Utah State University), and an MPA (Master of Public Administration) and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Utah.
Dr. Oliverson has spent most of his career in Provo School District and has taken the lead or served on various initiatives and committees, including the Provo City Youth Crime Task Force, Utah State UASSP Judicial Committee, Provo City/District Master Plan Committee, PSD Character Education Committee, Provo City Youth Council, PSD Curriculum Committee, PSD Special Education Committee, UHSAAA Region VII Board of Managers, UASEP Board of Directors, UASEP Nominating Committee, and the CITES Arts Education Committee—just to name a few. He is passionate about helping students receive a rich, hands-on, multifaceted arts experience as they progress through K-12 education, which he believes also benefits student learning in math, literacy, and the sciences.
On a personal note, Dr. Oliverson’s wife is also an educator, and they have three children. He enjoys spending time with his children, sports, history, numismatics, art, linguistics, and philosophy. He was a former collegiate athlete, distinquished military officer, and along with his musically talented children—won Utah’s Best Of State award for musical performance and composition.!
