PCSD Buildings Awarded Energy Star Certification

We are excited to announce that sixteen of our district buildings have earned the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Energy Star Certification. In order to earn the Energy Star Certification, buildings have to rank in the top 25 percent of the most energy-efficient nationwide.

For the past 40 months, Provo City School District has been working with a Cenergistic, a company that specializes in organizational-based energy conservation for school districts and many other large organizations. The goal was to dramatically reduce energy consumption and also the cost of utilities while ensuring comfort for class time and scheduled activities.

There has been significant progress made in achieving this goal. From 2014 to 2017, the district has saved more than $2,450,000 and cut energy consumption by 27.5 percent. According to the EPA, this decrease in energy use is equal to taking 3,065 cars off the road.

The sixteen buildings that have earned this certification include Amelia Earhart Elementary, Canyon Crest Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Lakeview Elementary, Provo Peaks Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary, Timpanogos Elementary, Wasatch Elementary, Oakridge (Wasatch 2), Westridge Elementary, Centennial Middle, Dixon Middle, Timpview High, Independence High, Grandview Learning Center and the District Office Building.
