Get Involved as a Parent

Ongoing research shows that family engagement in schools improves student achievement, reduces absenteeism, and restores parents’ confidence in their children’s education. Students with involved parents or other caregivers earn higher grades and test scores, have better social skills, and show improved behavior.  ~National Education Association

Consider joining a parent group or committee:

Equity and Diversity Committees

The District Equity and Diversity department has formed several parent advisory committees:

  • Title 6 Native American
  • Latino
  • Pacific Islander
  • African American
  • Asian American
  • LGBTQ+
  • Parents of Students with Special Needs

These committees help bring families together and helps them bring understanding to the community.  Learn more about the district’s Equity and Diversity department here.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

Join the PTA or PTO at your school. It’s a great way to connect with other parents and be a part of your school community.  Look for information at back to school night or talk to your school secretary.

Community Council

Volunteer to participate on your school’s community council. Be a part of the schools decision making and goal setting process.  Ask your school for more details.

Action Team for Partnerships

Several of our schools have ATP’s. This committee makes a yearly plan that helps the school achieve their goals. Contact Mary Warner at maryw@provo.edu for more details.
