Child Nutrition created an FAQ for those using PEBT (Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer). Please feel free to download the PEBT FAQ (including our Spanish-translation) and share with anyone using PEBT.

We remind readers the Department of Workforce Services manages the P-EBT program. The Provo City School District provides students with free and reduced information to the Department of Workforce Services. The district does not handle P-EBT information, SNAP benefits, or P-EBT cards or funds. To learn more about the program, visit jobs.utah.gov/covid19/pebt/ or contact Utahns Against Hunger at uah.org/get-help/school-meals. Parents may also contact DWS at 1-866-435-7414.

PEBT FAQ:

Disclaimer. This FAQ was created using the best information available to us at the time. Changes may be implemented by the Department of Workforce Services (or DWS) without notice.

Q: What is PEBT?

A: PEBT (or soon-to-be Summer EBT) is a program where families can receive a one-time payment of $120 per eligible student.

Q: What makes a student eligible?

A: The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) gives the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a brick-and-mortar National School Lunch Program (NSLP) participating school on May 1, 2023.
  • Be eligible for free or reduced-price school meals during the 2022-23 school year or be enrolled in a Community Eligible Provision or Provision 2 school.

Q: Do I have to apply for PEBT?

A: No. If your student meets the criteria above, there information has already been submitted at the State’s request.

Q: I have my approval letter/email for Free/Reduced meals for 22/23. Do I need to submit a copy to anyone?

A: No, but please retain that documentation for your personal records.

Q: How will the benefit be given to us?

A: (From the DWS website): P-EBT benefits are issued on an EBT card, similar to a debit card. The money will automatically add to your card if you already have a SNAP EBT card and qualify for P-EBT benefits.

Q: When will cards be issued?

A: By the end of July 2023.

Q: How do I get the card?

A: Please get in touch with DWS at 1-866-435-7414

Q: DWS says that the schools (or the District Office) have the card.

A: This is incorrect. Provo School District is not responsible for issuing PEBT cards.

Q: DWS says the school district can tell whether my student’s name was submitted to the State.

A: We can verify this information for you at your request. Please call 801-374-4866 or email grantb@provo.edu. Call & email volume is very high because of PEBT, so please be patient while waiting for a response. Please do not contact your school. They will not have this information.

Q: I didn’t get a card, but someone I know did.

Q: I received money for one child but not another.

Q: I received more money than I was supposed to.

A: All we can do is verify whether your student’s name was submitted to the State. Otherwise, please get in touch with DWS at 1-866-435-7414.

Q: My payment was sent to an old address.

A: We submit whatever information we have on file. If you have a new address, please contact DWS at 1-866-435-7414. At the same time, please update your contact details with the front office of your student’s school.

Q: The phone number for DWS refers me to an email address.

A: Unfortunately, we don’t have any other way to contact DWS regarding PEBT. You can try their main number at 801-526-9675, but in the past, they have just referred parents back to the phone number mentioned previously.
