Wasatch Teacher Earns National Board Certification

Congratulations to Christine Whatcott, who recently earned her National Board Teacher Certification.

Christine, who is a fourth grade teacher at Wasatch Elementary, was recognized at the Capitol by the Senate last month, along with other National Board Certified teachers. Each teacher was recognized and also received a pin and award.

The National Board Certification program was started by teachers as a way to help develop, retain and recognize amazing teachers and as a way to generate ongoing improvement in school districts. This certification requires a long process, which includes three portfolio entries and an online assessment.

Certification information from the National Board Certification website states that, “the certification process requires that teachers demonstrate standards-based evidence of the positive effect they have on student learning in alignment with the five core propositions. They must exhibit a deep understanding of their students, content knowledge, use of data and assessments and teaching practice. They must also show that they participate in learning communities and provide evidence of ongoing reflection and continuous learning”.

The National Board Certification is one of the most respected professional certifications a teacher can earn in K-12 education. Christine is among the ten PCSD teachers who have earned this prestigious award.
