Travis Cook is an Education Specialist with the Utah State Board of Education. Since 2004, he has worked to support the educational vision and mission of the Board through a number of unique assignments: Adult Education, Alternative Education, Career, Technical Education, Data, Educator Licensing, Financial Literacy, Gang Prevention, Special Education, Work-Based Learning and Youth in Custody. A lifelong learner at his core, he is committed to cultivating this same desire in educators and students statewide.
Travis began his career in the field of education as a Sign Language Interpreter with the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind in October of 1993. He then spent four years at West High School in Salt Lake City School District as an educational interpreter and American Sign Language teacher.
In addition to his public education experience, Travis also worked with the following post-secondary institutions as an adjunct faculty member from 1997-2000: Salt Lake Community College, University of Utah, Utah Valley University and Weber State University.
Since that time he has been engaged as an interpreter, teacher, student, and collaborator with public and private educational institutions statewide.
His formal education consists of A.S. degrees in Criminal Justice and Interpreting for the Deaf from Salt Lake Community College, a B.S. in Law Enforcement from Weber State University and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Southern Utah University.
He holds a Level 2 Utah Professional Educator License with the Administrative/Supervisory (K-12) and Secondary Education (6-12) license areas of concentration. His license endorsements include: American Sign Language, Driver & Safety Education, Educational Technology, English as a Second Language, General Financial Literacy, Health Education, Law Enforcement, Physical Education, Psychology, Secondary Keyboarding and Work-Based Learning.
Away from work you will find Travis spending time outdoors with his family and participating in his unique sporting interests (curling, disc golf, Ultimate, ice hockey, fly fishing, etc.).
