Timpview’s Anne Clark and Denise Abbott were announced as two of Utah’s winners of the U.S. Presidential Scholar and U.S. Presidential Scholar Distinguished Teacher, respectively, by Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos in Washington, D.C. on May 5, 2017.
Clark, a senior, has served as Timpview High School’s HOSA President and is recognized as a U.S. Presidential Scholar for career and technical education. U.S. Department of Education and the Commission on Presidential Scholars invited her to join the other scholars from all over the country in Washington, D.C. to participate in the National Recognition Program in June.
Abbott is Timpview’s HOSA advisor who nominated Clark for the Presidential Scholar program. She is a Registered Nurse (RN), a health science teacher and a mother. “I am happy for the opportunities I have to teach, to be involved with HOSA, to be a registered nurse, and to be a mom. I love what I do … and consider myself to be very blessed, indeed,” Abbott says on Timpview’s website.
“The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars annually based on their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals,” the official press release stated.
