4th graders from Timpanogos Elementary school trekked up to This is the Place Heritage Park in Salt Lake City to learn about the lives of the pioneers as a part of the 4th grade social studies curriculum.

Students pushed real handcarts around the pioneer village. They took a train ride to learn about the Golden Spike driven into the rails at Promontory Point on May 10, 1869 – the historic day which connected the east coast to the west coast.

It was a cold and rainy day, but the fourth graders felt they had a true pioneer experience.
