An upcoming band concert has the sixth graders perfecting their pieces at Spring Creek Elementary. Whitney Werner, the music instructor, has prepared her students to showcase their work on January 30, 2019 at Timpview High school at 7pm.

The two pieces they will be performing are “When the Saints Come Marching In” and “Shockwave”. Werner prepares her class by going over the new notes they have learned. Some of these include the “G” note, a quarter note and a half note. The class counts the beats of the notes with claps and taps to ensure they know where the rests, or the breaks in the music, are.

The music program at Spring Creek allows for the students to decide if they want to do orchestra, band or choir during their sixth-grade year. This concert will contribute to the fine arts core standard for music that states, “Perform music with expression, technical accuracy, and appropriate interpretation; watch and respond to the conductor to perform dynamics, style, and phrasing, and start, stop, and stay together; and demonstrate performance decorum.”

The concert will be combined with students from Centennial Middle and Timpview High school. Everyone is welcome to attend and support the music programs the schools have to offer.
