Sirens sound and children cheer as the Police Chief, Fire Chief, Mayor Kaufusi and a special guest round the corner to Canyon Crest Elementary to share an important message.
Kindergartners and first graders waited eagerly at the front of the school while police cars, motorcycles and a fire truck paraded into the carpool lane with their lights aglow. The students shouted when Santa Claus stepped out of the truck and asked them to follow him into the gym to talk about spreading holiday cheer.
To begin, the Mayor, as well as the Police and Fire Chief, each took turns reading the classic holiday tale, “The Night Before Christmas”. Following this, the Mayor talked with the children about ways to be kind to others during this winter season. The Police and Fire Chief then reminded the students about fire safety and the importance of wearing our seatbelts anytime they are in the car.
At the end of the assembly, Santa spread some holiday cheer by singing with the students and reminding them to give good gifts such as love this holiday season. We are grateful these visitors helped our students at Canyon Crest Elementary start off this season in a positive light.
