Romney Congratulates Timpview on Representing Utah at National Science Bowl

The students of a Timpview High School science team will be representing the state of Utah for the 20th Annual National Science Bowl. James Camacho, Joseph Camacho, Aliza Cavender, Jared Argyle, Matthew Argyle, and Moses Esplin will be traveling to the East Coast to compete in the national bowl. The event will be held Saturday, May 22nd in Washington D.C.

After taking home the top prize in the regional competition, the students were honored with virtually meeting state Senator Mitt Romney. On May 18th at 2:00, the students met with Sen. Romney over a zoom call where he congratulated the candidates on their excellent work and encouraged them to continue their studies and go forward to be the foundation of the future.

As the students move onto Nationals, they will compete with about 9,000 of the top students who also compete in the academic challenge every year. High schoolers and middle schoolers have participated in the competition for 20 years, and over 315,000 students have competed in the bowl since its inception in 1991.

The Science Bowl is hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy. The competition tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics. Teams are composed of students with diverse backgrounds, and are advised by one teacher and one coach. Students engage in a fast-paced question-and-answer in a variety of disciplines including math, Earth science, physics, energy, biology, and chemistry.

This is the second year Timpview High has come home from the regional competition as the champions. The students of Timpview have continued to uphold the strong academic tradition of the school and the community.

Estudiantes del equipo de ciencias de Timpview High School representarán el estado de Utah en el 20th Annual National Science Bowl. James Camacho, Joseph Camacho, Aliza Cavender, Jared Argyle, Matthew Argyle y Moses Esplin viajarán a la región Este para competir en el bowl nacional. El evento ocurrirá el sábado 22 de mayo en Washington D.C.

Después de llevarse el gran premio de la competencia regional, los estudiantes tuvieron el honor de conocer de forma virtual al Senador estatal Mitt Romney. El 18 de mayo, a las 2:00, los estudiantes se reunieron con el senador Romney a través de una llamada por zoom en la que los felicitó por su excelente trabajo y también los animó a continuar sus estudios y a seguir adelante formando la fundación del futuro.

Al avanzar a los nacionales, los estudiantes competirán con aproximadamente 9 mil de los mejores estudiantes que también compiten cada año de forma académica. Los estudiantes de secundaria y de bachillerato han participado en la competición durante 20 años, y más de trescientos quince mil estudiantes han competido en el Bowl desde su creación en 1991.

El Science Bowl es organizado por el Departamento de Energía de los Estados Unidos. La competencia evalúa el conocimiento de los estudiantes en todas las áreas de la ciencia y la matemática. Los equipos están formados por estudiantes de diferentes orígenes y son dirigidos por un profesor y un entrenador. Los estudiantes participan en una rápida sesión de preguntas y respuestas en una variedad de disciplinas como las matemáticas, las Ciencias del Planeta, la Física, la Energía, la Biología y la Química.

Este es el segundo año que Timpview High ha regresado a casa como campeones de la competencia regional. Los estudiantes de Timpview han seguido manteniendo la fuerte tradición académica de la escuela y la comunidad.
