There are families in need of aid in our district. Each family’s needs are different and unique, requiring undivided attention. Moreover, many families need help figuring out where to start or who to talk to. Gratefully, we have Claudia Barillas to seek out, listen, coordinate, and connect families with the aid they need.

Claudia Barillas serves as Provo City School District’s Student and Family Advocate. In that integral role, she coordinates advocacy, mentorship, curricular programs, and extracurricular school programs between students, parents, and staff to increase students’ academic and social achievement.

For this and many other kindnesses, we’d like to celebrate and congratulate Claudia with the Provo Way Award.

Claudia’s initial nomination came from her fellow Student and Family Advocate, Madison Hirschi. Madison explained that she nominated Claudia because “she helps so many families. Claudia is kind and cheerful with all faculty.” Madison also said that Claudia is the go-to person in an emergency and is calm under pressure.

During Claudia’s nomination, our district’s Diversity and Equity Coordinator, Brian Yazzie, had this to say about Claudia’s irreplaceable abilities as a Student and Family Advocate:

Claudia does so much for so many families. She consistently aids families in supporting their children. Since she started working for the district, her community impact has been incredible, especially in the Latino community. She’s created so many opportunities to show our Latino students their talents– opportunities for our students to grow into strong and capable young adults. We’re so grateful for her dedication and what she brings to Provo City School District.

Congratulations on the award, Claudia, and thank you for being the bridge that makes student success possible.
