Provo Peaks students recently had the opportunity to experiment measuring different temperatures in their classroom using thermometers. The thermometers were created by the students using water, rubbing alcohol, and food coloring. Students were then able to test their thermometers using various objects around the classroom.

This lesson, which is a STEM challenge, allowed the students to learn how to accurately record various temperatures using alcohol thermometers and then design their own thermometer to measure temperatures of both hot and cold liquids.

Through this activity, students were also able to discover how thermometers operate, how heat flows between two objects, and how the heat flow can be measured through temperature.
