Provo students participated in the “kindness retreat” at Provo City Library on October 4, 2017. Students of all ages engaged in unity building exercises and listened to guest lecturers. They had one mission: kindness.
With a vision set on kindness, students learned the importance of working together and watching out for others. They learned that it is not difficult to show kindness to those around them, and there are multiple ways to do it. Guest speakers had students brainstorm ways to show kindness and taught them ways to protect themselves from harmful messages online. Online safety was taught, not only to high school students, but to middle school and elementary school students as well. Students realized that being their authentic selves is most important. Now is a time to define who they are and who they want to become. By the end of the retreat, each student had signed a pledge of kindness and committed to keep that pledge.
Provo City School District is proud to have students that are devoted to spreading kindness. This retreat taught students to be kind, be safe and pass it on. There is nothing better than watching students share goodness in schools and in the community.
