PCSD’s Safety Strategies (And One Strategy You Might Not Expect)

Did you know our District has several SROs that monitor and protect our schools daily?

“So what are SROs?” You may ask.

SROs are School Resource Officers that teach, counsel, and protect our students.

Contrary to popular belief, not all school-based law enforcement officers have the same role.

Based upon the needs of our students in the District, administrators are able to request certain responsibilities for what the officers are responsible for.

From presentations on “Stranger Danger” to “Noticing the Warning Signs of Someone Who is Hurting” these officers have taken a role in educating students on how they can be safe.

One of the many tools officers use to better understand the youth is teaching law enforcement credit classes.

Not only does this relationship build trust and understanding between the two parties, but our officers are able to talk to the students and keep up-to-date on the latest issues our youth are facing.

Safety for our students is of utmost importance.

Another safety tool that our district uses to protect our students is something that you might not expect.

Can you guess what it is?

It’s our kindness clubs!

Since the establishment of our kindness clubs, our students have been able to imagine themselves in the other person’s shoes.

Because of this perspective, many of our students have made a huge impact with simple acts. Acts such as “welcoming the new kid” or “sitting by someone who is by themselves” or “giving a genuine compliment”.

And because of empathy, our schools are safer and better for it.

We are so proud of our students and the many acts they are taking to be more kind.

We also want to give a big thanks to our SROs in the school district.
