We are cooling things down as we celebrate “Christmas in July” with our next book in the PCSD Summer Reading Series: “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Suess.
This story is about a grouchy character dubbed “The Grinch” who absolutely hates Christmas. He decides that he is going to ruin Christmas for the Whos down in Whoville by stealing their Christmas decorations and gifts. However, his attitude quickly changes as he runs into a young girl with a big heart. This beloved holiday classic was first published in 1957. However, the Grinch character was actually introduced a few years earlier in Dr. Suess’ poem “The Hoobub and the Grinch”, which was featured in Redbook Magazine in 1955.
Dr. Suess and others claim that this book was the easiest book of his for him to write, with exception to the ending. Suess was able to finish most of the book in a few weeks, but had a difficult time deciding how he wanted to conclude the story. Eventually, he decided to have the Grinch carving roast beef with the Whos. Overall, this book is a great read for all ages and is a great story for any time of year.
To see a LIVE reading of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas, tune into the PCSD Facebook page at 12pm TOMORROW! There will be a surprise guest reader this week.
