As part of the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) creates an environment where high school students can get their hands on professional level projects and gain real, put-it-on-a-resume experience that will prepare them for their post-school lives. The learning environment that CAPS provides is invaluable, but it comes at a cost to the district. Between hiring an army of additional instructors, finding space for the student work and instruction, as well as several unforeseeable factors that can pop up, the important program has a significant amount of overhead.

While the district was facing an unusual situation this year, Nu Skin – a local company – joined the conversation. With the advent of the COVID pandemic, Nu Skin shifted into a remote work situation. As vaccinations have rolled out, workers have been allowed to return to their offices. Nu Skin’s unique approach of continuing to embrace the benefits of working from home and returning not being required, the company found themselves with an abundance of open space.

Fidel Montero, the principal of Timpview High, heard about their open space and saw an opportunity to advance the CAPS program. After reaching out, Nu Skin proved to be more than willing to providing their space for the program. Now, the Nu Skin’s Force For Good Center allows them to not only provide an amazing opportunity for students but in turn, give employees an opportunity to serve.

More than simply saving the District money, the space allowed the program to expand to new heights and reach a more diverse audience. In previous years, the program was restricted to only students with reliable transportation to obtain internships. Now, because all of the spaces are located in the Nu Skin building, each High School is able to provide busses for the students. Students who do not have access to a car can now gain the benefits of the Provo CAPS program.

In addition to the space that Nu Skin is providing, they, alongside other businesses, are contributing to the program through instruction and project requests. The other contributing businesses and entities are as follows:

  • Sensum
  • Provo City
  • Whitaker Construction
  • Bricks & Minifigs
  • United Way
  • IHC LiVe Well
  • Xactware
  • Keeping the Faith in Downtown Provo
  • Fat Cats
  • Hall Labs
  • The Spoon
  • Bending the Light
  • Families Up

Nu Skin, as well as every other business helping out in their ways, are demonstrating how important it is to have a strong community that is willing to jump in and help wherever possible. These actions help out the community as a whole by enriching student’s education, and preparing the next generation of working professionals.

  • Sensum
  • Provo City
  • Whitaker Construction
  • Bricks & Minifigs
  • United Way
  • IHC LiVe Well
  • Xactware
  • Keeping the Faith in Downtown Provo
  • Fat Cats
  • Hall Labs
  • The Spoon
  • Bending the Light
  • Families Up
