Desiree Olsen and Jay Porter have been announced as new elementary assistant principals. Desiree will be at Edgemont Elementary School and Jay will be at Wasatch Elementary School.
Desiree began working with Provo City School District in 1999 as a Student and Family Advocate at Provost Elementary. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and taught full-day kindergarten in Granite School District, and in Provo City School District at Sunset View Elementary.
Desiree has worked with TRIO programs as an outreach advisor and was the coordinator of the Federal GEAR UP grant partnership between UVU and Provo City School District. She earned her Master’s in Education with an Administrative License from Southern Utah University. She has been the Instructional Facilitator at Sunset View Elementary and Canyon Crest Elementary. She is looking forward to working with the students, families, and staff in the Edgemont school community!
Jay grew up in Utah and Morgan counties, and graduated from Pleasant Grove High. He went to college at UVU and graduated from SUU with his Master’s of Education, with an Administrative endorsement. He started teaching in Washington County in third grade. He also taught fifth grade before moving on to be a Title I coordinator. Four years ago, Jay became principal at Blanding Elementary School in Blanding, UT. Jay spent this past year as a third grade teacher at Sunset View Elementary. Jay says that the classroom has been a great reminder to him of why he is in education and why he loves being in administration. He loves interacting with students and can’t wait to get to know the kids and parents at Wasatch Elementary.
