March is “Music in Our Schools” Month. Our district has many skilled and devoted music teachers deserving praise. The district is highlighting Music Teachers throughout March to celebrate all they do to build the musical culture in our schools and community.

This week we want to thank Lela Ashby from Westridge Elementary School.

Lela enjoys playing music with her students and observing them grow. Using music as a model for skill master, Lela likes watching her students improve their ability to learn new things. She loves seeing her students grow in confidence after achieving new musical accomplishments.

Lela plays an assortment of instruments in her free time, including the piano, violin, recorder, guitar, ukulele, and concertina. She listens to a diverse array of music but especially likes folk tunes like Danny Boy, Amazing Grace, and Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.

Thank you, Lela, for supporting your students in their musical and personal development.

Join us next Friday for another Music Teacher highlight, and tell your Music Teachers what they mean to you and your school!
