Maritza Larson and Cinda Morgan have been named Provo City School District Counselor of the Year and Counseling Support Staff of the Year, respectively, for Provo City School District for the year 2017. Provo City School District recognizes and congratulates these individuals for their outstanding service to the students and the community.

Maritza Larsen
Larson is a guidance counselor at Centennial Middle School and has given 22 years of service as a counselor. She is a strong advocate for ESL students and spends much of her time helping ESL students and their parents. She is known for her kindness, support and humility.

“I feel like she quietly goes about her job and helps her students and it is evident by the way she talks with them, encourages them and always sees the good in all of her students. Even when they make a mistake she is quick to point out the positive things they have been doing lately,” a peer of Larson said. One student said she tries her best because “Mrs. Larson believes in me!”

Cinda Morgan
Morgan is the Career Center Coordinator and Scholarship Specialist at Timpview High School and has served as such for two years. Her responsibilities vary, ranging from helping make CCR presentations in the classrooms to assisting with Registration to planning and implementing Campus Tours for hundreds of students

“Mrs. Morgan is very inviting to everyone that comes through her door.
She loves to help the students. If she doesn’t know the answer to something she gets on the phone to help get answers for students. She makes sure the students feel comfortable. She makes you feel important. She is happy and has a smile on her face. She has pushed me to apply for scholarships…Mrs. Morgan is awesome!” Mikayla Vaughn, a student at Timpview, said.

We recognize all of the Counselor’s or Support Staff who were nominated for these awards. They do a wonderful job advocating for Provo School District students in serving the needs of all students.
