Two greenhouses are helping patients at the Utah State Hospital flourish as they work with plants and help them to grow.

These greenhouses started as a partnership between the Provo City School District and the Utah State Hospital in 2015 and is staffed by personnel from each organization.

All patients at Utah State Hospital have access to the greenhouses, including students in the pediatric program.

“They get in here and they start smelling the plants, they get their hands in the dirt, they start planting and you can see their whole demeanor just perk up,” Mark Van Wagoner, greenhouse manager and instructor, said.
