Each week, the Daily Herald features different teachers and students from school districts around the state of Utah. The teachers and students are chosen from nominations that are received. This week, The Daily Herald selected Provo City School District and focused on teacher Ty Smith and student Amelia.

Ty Smith is a math teacher at Dixon Middle School. He has been teaching for 31 years and has been at Dixon for 26 of those years. He was selected because of his fun and hands-on teaching style, which include rapping and his “icey man” comics. He is also well-known for his caring personality and his ability to make math a fun subject for all students.
