Students at Centennial Middle School were excited to receive new robotics equipment last Wednesday. The previous equipment was replaced by VEX Robotics and contains enough equipment for two robotics classes instead of one.
Michael Smoot, the new engineering and robotics teacher at Centennial, recommended the new equipment for the classes. He is on the state advisory for the Technology Student Association and has had a lot of experience teaching both CCA tech and robotics.
Centennial’s robotics program utilizes a hands-on curriculum that emphasizes electrical, mechanical, and engineering principles that can be used in both robotics and future career paths. Through this program, students work in teams of two to learn how to effectively build, program, and control robotic devices.
The new VEX Robotics kits will also allow students to compete at the Utah Technology Student Association annual conference in March. Centennial will be sending two teams to represent the school and district at the conference.
Thank you to all those involved in implementing these new kits into the robotics curriculum.
