Celebrating School Library Month

Our school libraries are filled with amazing books, inspiring authors, captivating stories, and the best librarians! We are so excited to celebrate all they do and all our libraries have to offer, this month.

School Library Month is the American Association of School Librarians’ celebration of school librarians and school libraries. This annual festivity has such a rich history which began on April 1st, 1985. The theme of the first national observance of School Library Month was “Where Learning Never Ends: The School Library Media Center.”

On April 1st, 1985 – to kick off the first School Library Month – a ceremony was held on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol. The ceremony keynote speaker, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was speaking directly to all school librarians in the audience when he said, “I want to thank you for what you do. I hope you know how important your work is. You change lives for the better.”

We invite all to join our district in celebrating the essential role that our strong school libraries and librarians play in transforming learning.

Celebrando el Mes de las Bibliotecas Escolares

Nuestras bibliotecas en las escuelas están llenas de libros increíbles, autores inspiradores, historias cautivadoras y los mejores bibliotecarios. Estamos muy contentos de celebrar todo lo que hacen y todo lo que nuestras bibliotecas tienen que ofrecer, este mes.

El Mes de las Bibliotecas Escolares es la celebración que hace la Asociación Americana de Bibliotecarios Escolares, de los bibliotecarios escolares y de las bibliotecas escolares. Esta celebración anual tiene una gran historia que comenzó el 1 de abril de 1985. El tema de la primera celebración nacional del Mes de las Bibliotecas Escolares fue “Donde el aprendizaje nunca termina: el centro de medios de la biblioteca escolar”.

En abril de 1985, para inaugurar el primer Mes de las Bibliotecas Escolares, se celebró una ceremonia en la escalinata oeste del Capitolio de los Estados Unidos. El orador de la ceremonia, el senador Daniel Patrick Moynihan, se expresó directamente a todos los bibliotecarios escolares presentes cuando dijo: “Quiero darles las gracias por lo que hacen. Espero que sepan lo importante que es su trabajo. Ustedes cambian vidas para mejor”.
