Battle of the Books 2021

Competition was fierce this week as the district held its annual Battle of the Books for middle school, 3rd & 4th graders and 5th & 6th graders. Each year students around the district prepare for this event by reading several book titles and learning the content in those books well enough to be quizzed on them.

Teams from each school are picked by individual school battles, with the top five contestants representing their school for the district battle. The librarians at each of our schools coordinate this effort, encouraging the students, getting them excited about the books, and then serving as team coach.

This year we had eight of our elementary school participate with two teams from Canyon Crest, Edgemont, Provo Peaks, Provost, Rock Canyon, Spring Creek, Sunset View, and Westridge. Both Dixon and Centennial Middle School participated.

Though this year’s district competition looked a little different because of COVID, the enthusiasm was high and the competition was stiff. Each school participated via Zoom from their own library using a white board to write their results and hold them up. Several schools created a live feed so that other students in the school could watch the competition. We visited each school to snap a picture and wish them luck. It was great to see so many excited readers and we would like to give a big shout out to our librarians as well as our students for all their hard work.

3/4 Graders – Provost with second place going to Canyon Crest
4/6 Graders – Westridge with second place tied 4 ways with Canyon Crest, Edgemont, Provo Peaks and Provost

Batalla de los libros 2021

La competencia fue intensa esta semana por la Batalla de los Libros anual que celebró el distrito para los alumnos de la escuela media, de 3 y 4 grado y de 5 y 6 grado. Cada año, los estudiantes del distrito se preparan para este evento leyendo varios títulos de libros y aprendiendo el contenido de esos libros lo suficientemente bien para ser evaluado en ellos.

Los equipos de cada escuela fueron elegidos por batallas escolares individuales, y los cinco mejores concursantes representaron a su escuela para la batalla del distrito. Los bibliotecarios de cada una de nuestras escuelas coordinan este esfuerzo, animando a los estudiantes, entusiasmándolos con los libros, y luego sirviendo como entrenador del equipo.

Este año participaron ocho de nuestras escuelas primarias con dos equipos de Canyon Crest, Edgemont, Provo Peaks, Provost, Rock Canyon, Spring Creek, Sunset View y Westridge. Tanto Dixon como Centennial Middle School participaron.

Aunque la competición de distrito de este año fue un poco diferente debido a COVID, el entusiasmo fue alto y la competencia fue intensa. Cada escuela participó a través de Zoom desde su propia biblioteca, utilizando una pizarra para escribir sus respuestas y presentarlas. Varias escuelas crearon una transmisión en vivo para que otros estudiantes de la escuela pudieran ver la competición. Visitamos cada escuela para tomar una foto y desearles suerte. Fue estupendo ver a tantos lectores entusiasmados y nos gustaría dar un gran aplauso a nuestros bibliotecarios, así como a nuestros estudiantes, por todo su esfuerzo.
