Earlier today, Provo Peaks Elementary School held their annual Special Olympic games. The games give special education students a chance to showcase physical and social skills they have been working on throughout the school year. The student athletes competed in heats of running, bike races, scooter races, basketball and even bowling.

This year the games saw great support with BYU cheerleaders among the crowd. District employees dressed as pirates ran the event and performed skits in-between heats to keep the students excited about the next race. Posters were made by Provo Peaks students, who came to cheer on their classmates. Many of these students also participated in the “buddies” program to helped to train the athletes. It was an overall exciting and positive experience that teachers and students are looking forward to each year.
