Amelia Earhart students worked on their penmanship and literacy style while writing their own Limerick Poetry. The first letter of the poem is illustrated to connect the various elements to their poem. This is a tactic that their art teacher, Amanda Elton, uses to differentiate their learning.
“We like to give our students a multi-tiered system of support,” said Amelia Earhart Title I Coordinator Jonathan Hoehne.
“In our Literacy Integration program, we take the data from Dibles testing (a series of short tests that assess K-8 literacy) to create projects that target the needs of our students.”
“This is a fairly new program we have created, and it is still a work in progress,” said Hoehne. “But we feel this has been effective in serving to our students’ hierarchy of needs. Once they master phonics, fluency, and comprehension we can provide them with these additional programs and resources to supplement their learning.”
