6th Grade Stargazing at Provost

Last Friday, after school at dusk about 60 students and their families joined 6th grade teacher, Bill Sprunger, at Slate Canyon park to search for planets in the November night sky. Sprunger makes a special effort to bring students the opportunity to see the celestial objects they learn about in their curriculum. November is one of the best times of year to stargaze due to the ability to see Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and the moon.

Sprunger brings out the high powered telescopes every year to give each of his students this opportunity. Learning about our planetary neighbors in a classroom teaches us important knowledge, but seeing them with our own eyes has an educational power that is difficult to quantify.

If the opportunity is available, this month is the perfect time to do a little stargazing and see the amazing wonders the solar system has to offer.

6º grado mira las estrellas en la escuela primaria Provost

El viernes pasado, después de las clases, al anochecer, unos 60 alumnos y sus familias se unieron al profesor de 6º grado Bill Sprunger en el parque del cañón de la pizarra para buscar planetas en el cielo nocturno de noviembre. Sprunger hace un esfuerzo especial para que los alumnos tengan la oportunidad de ver los objetos celestes sobre los que aprenden en su plan de estudios. Noviembre es una de las mejores épocas del año para observar las estrellas debido a la posibilidad de ver Marte, Júpiter, Saturno, Mercurio y Venus.

Sprunger saca los telescopios de alta potencia cada año para dar a cada uno de sus alumnos esta oportunidad. Aprender sobre nuestros vecinos planetarios en un aula nos enseña conocimientos importantes, pero verlos con nuestros propios ojos tiene un poder educativo difícil de cuantificar.

Si se tiene la oportunidad, este mes es el momento perfecto para hacer un poco de observación de las estrellas y ver las increíbles maravillas que ofrece el sistema solar.
