New Assistant Principal Positions

The district has announced three new assistant principals in the district. These new positions will begin on July 1. Mary Allison James and Martin Yablonovsky will be assistant principals at Timpview High School. David Kent will be an assistant principal at Provo High School.

Mary Allison James

Mary Allison James is a veteran educator of over 30 years. Mary is originally from Tucson, Arizona, where she worked as a district work based learning coordinator, computer technology and art teacher, and softball coach. She began working at Provo City School District in 2001 as a business and technology teacher and new teacher mentor at Dixon Middle School until 2012. She then served at Independence High School as a computer science and accounting teacher, as well as their dean of students until joining Provo High School as an assistant principal in 2018. She has an undergraduate degree in business and marketing education from Prescott College, and a master’s degree in educational technology and learning sciences, and her administrator license from Utah State University. She is also currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership from BYU. Though she is sad to leave the Bulldog community, she is excited about working with the Timpview High School students and staff and all its stakeholders!

Martin Yablonovsky

Martin’s career in education has embraced diverse cultures and responsibilities. After a one-year internship at Springville Junior High School, he began teaching math and coaching high school sports to Yup’ik students in rural Alaska, served for 19 years in various positions in Utah, and currently serves as Principal of Friday Harbor Middle and High Schools on San Juan Island in Washington state.

His experience in Utah also includes: Director of Transportation, Salt Lake City School District; Principal of Open Classroom, SLCSD; Assistant Principal at East High, SLCSD; and teacher at Payson Middle School.

He completed his undergraduate BA in Math Education and MA in Educational Leadership at Brigham Young University. He earned his MBA at the University of Utah. If you want to know what color he bleeds, you’ll have to ask him.

Originally from northern California, Martin is honored to return with his wife and three children to the beautiful state they now call home, and in particular to Provo, where he spent so many happy years attending BYU. He is especially excited to become a part of the exemplary Timpview High community. Martin enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities and is always up for a game of chess.

David Kent

David grew up in Southeast Idaho. He attended Utah State University and Wichita State University, where he earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Secondary Education/Biological Sciences. Upon completion of this degree, David started teaching Biology, Earth Science, and Environmental Science at Independence High School in Provo. While teaching there, he started a Masters Degree in Science Education Research at BYU and earned that degree in 2010. In 2012, he left PCSD and moved out of state to teach Biology and Honors Biology at a private Catholic High School in Wichita, Kansas, as well as Biology and Geophysical Science at Grand Junction High School in Colorado. After 2 years, David brought his family back home to Provo to teach Biology and Earth Science at Provo High School. During these 6 years, he served as Department Chair and on the Instructional Leadership Team. David then went back to school and earned another Masters Degree from Western Governors University in Educational Leadership. The past 2 years he has served the Provo High School community as the Dean of Students.
