“David Young goes above and beyond when it comes to working with children as the Social Worker at Amelia Earhart, specifically serving students in the Behavioral Unit,” wrote Amelia Earhart Behavior Specialist Josh Smith.

Great social workers do so much more than the job description– they provide critical support to students and staff, foster emotional well-being, build resilience, and create pathways for academic and personal success through compassionate guidance and advocacy. They tear down the barriers for some of our most at-risk youth and take them by the shoulders up the path towards lifelong success, in and out of the classroom.

David Young is a great social worker. His compassion, dedication, and care for students significantly improved the lives of students and their families. Anyone who has walked the hallways here or at Shoreline has seen David walking with a student or sitting to chat. He is always busy and ever-caring and deserves to be seen for it.

Josh highlighted David’s ability to connect with students and foster growth, sharing:

“Mr. Young’s compassionate, dedicated, and caring nature ensures these students receive the guidance, counsel, and mentorship they need to achieve their daily academic goals. He builds strong student-teacher-social worker relationships, providing love, compassion, and concern for their well-being.”

And, as mentioned, his care extends beyond the classroom:

“He takes extra time to communicate with parents about their concerns, struggles, and achievements, further demonstrating his dedication and impact.”

This is his superpower: he senses student needs, cares beyond expectation, and impacts the community through his unwavering commitment to our students. It’s what makes him not just a social worker but an invaluable role model, mentor, and hero to many kids in our district.

Thank you, David, and congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
