Hello, Provo City School District. I am Superintendent Dau, and today is Monday, June 2nd, and here we are at Summer Vacation. Hope you really enjoyed your first full week off last week, and that you are continuing to enjoy the summer. I want to thank each of you for an incredible school year. We had fantastic graduations at the kindergarten level, the sixth grade level.
Our high school graduations, just a lot of work went into all of those different pieces to make things awesome for all of our students and our families. This week we start off with our building leadership team training. So each school has established a building leadership team and those individuals that have been selected to serve on that.
We’ll be coming to a training on Tuesday and Wednesday to really support our teacher leaders and in leading PLCs and collaboration and student learning across the [00:01:00] board as a district, I think you’ll find it really valuable as we try to create a really extensive feedback loop so that district leadership pushes things sometimes to principals. We’re collaborating. Those principals take those things to building leadership team leads. Those individuals will take it out to their grade levels and to their departments and then bring that information back or help us understand unintended consequences or concerns that might come up so that there is a clear feedback loop that is happening consistently.
At least on a monthly basis, if not more frequently than that. It might slow down our decision making processes a little bit. But hopefully it will help us communicate the why behind certain initiatives that we’re taking and be more helpful as we’re trying to really align the work that we are doing as a district.
Just so that you all are aware, Wasatch Elementary School has had a major shift.
Ruth [00:02:00] Ann Snow, who is the current principal at Wasatch Elementary has decided to stay at home and be awesome with her grandkids. She has a lot of grandkids that live across the country and we really want to extend our appreciation to Ruth Ann and for all of her hard work, she did a phenomenal job in stepping in and moving the school to its new location. And we really appreciate her leadership. Des Olson, who is currently the assistant principal at Edgemont Elementary, will be the new principal at Wasatch Elementary. So she’s gonna start off bright or early tomorrow at our Building leadership teams.
And we will continue to move forward all of the great things that are happening at Wasatch. As far as the assistant principal at Edgemont Elementary, we will let you know as decisions are made, we are working with Principal Kartchner on that. As far as Wasatch Elementary and the great wall situation that is happening, we’re still waiting to hear back from [00:03:00] a third party geotechnical engineering firm to determine how to mitigate the water that continues to be seen there and to ensure what is happening in terms of what happened in the design, what happened in the construction of the wall so that we can take the right next steps as we’re working with Hogan Construction. So just wanted to make you aware that that is still an ongoing process. We are still working with VCBO, the architects. And also Westland Construction with Timpview High School and the, and the design of the schematics for the next phase of construction.
We call this phase two. That will be the complete remodel of the auditorium, performing arts, special Ed, CTE Wings, administration counseling, and we’re continuing to work through that process. Several of you have emailed me. The calendar has been updated online for teachers. The calendars, as I spoke with Jason Cox for all other employees, will be updated after the [00:04:00] rollover on July 1st. Our negotiated agreements with both our ESP association. As well as our Provo Education Association have been ratified. They will be presented at the board meeting next week on June 10th. And so the board will vote whether to move forward on those particular agreements.
I don’t anticipate any major issues there. We’re gonna continue to work with you as and get, keep you updated on all of the work that we’re doing with attendance for this upcoming year. We had a great meeting several board members with Senator McKell as we’re looking at education issues moving forward, I really appreciate his responsiveness and desire to work with us on many different things.
There’s lots of optional summer training. We’re working towards ensuring that supports are in place as we plan for you to all come back to school in August. I know none of you wanna think about that right now, so I won’t even talk about it. But just want you to be aware that we’re already working on those particular pieces.
And so anyway, just want you to know that we are busy here in June. We do take most of July off but June is definitely a busy month for our principals, assistant principals, and our district administrators. With that, I hope you all have a fantastic week. See you next time.
