“Justin would dig a hole through the earth for his students,” shared Shoreline Middle School Teacher Kaylee Worthen.

Those words might feel like over-exaggeration for those who have never met English Teacher Justin Golightly, but feels insufficient to capture all of Golightly’s bottomless enthusiasm.

It’s why Justin was recognized with the Provo Way Award, per Worthen’s nomination. The Provo Way Award is given from the Provo City School District and Board of Education to celebrate educators who create meaningful learning experiences, and foster environments of trust and connection.

Justin’s passion for education is seen in all he does; in how prepares for each lesson, and reflected in the way he tailors his lessons to meet each student where they are. “A lot of the students we share struggle, especially with English, but Justin finds really creative ways to help them connect with the material,” Kaylee said. “He makes his curriculum come alive so that they can feel successful.”

Justin’s colleagues and students alike admire his ability to make every student feel valued. “He doesn’t just teach; he builds relationships,” Kaylee shared. “He cares about these kids as people, not just as students. His heart is in everything he does.”
