Policy 6730 Child Nutrition: Employee Continuing Education and Professional Standards

Provo City School District requires Child Nutrition employees to reinforce their job skills and knowledge through ongoing education and training. Professional Standards for School Nutrition Professionals, a key provision of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA) established professional standards for all employees that manage and operate the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). Employees will satisfy annual continuing education and training requirements and complete training hours necessary to meet Professional Standards prerequisites. Continuing education and training will vary according to employee position and job requirements with some training necessitating completion when first hired, annually, and on an ongoing basis. Job-specific continuing education and training hours and topics will align with the four key areas developed by the USDA: Nutrition, Operations, Administration, and Communications/Marketing and provide job-related professional development and growth experiences. Employees will attend or take District offered in-service, State agency-sponsored trainings, local school nutrition educational events; and take structured online courses trainings to maintain and/or build upon skill set needed to perform the duties and responsibilities of positions within the NSLP and SBP effectively and efficiently.
