ワサッチ小学校の幼稚園教諭シャリ・ペイン氏、2025年ユタ・ティーチャー・オブ・ザ・イヤーの最終候補に選出

The Utah State Board of Education has announced its 2025 Utah Teacher of the Year finalists from more than a hundred applicants statewide. Among the five finalists is Wasatch Elementary’s very own kindergarten teacher, Shari Payne. All finalists will receive a $2,000 cash prize for their exceptional work and contribution to Utah’s educational landscape, helping Payne to extend and grow her efforts in the classroom.

As one parent shared in a letter shared with the school, “It’s 8:45pm, and I just hung up with Mrs. Payne. She called to check on both of us—mom and student—after a terribly bad kindergarten drop off, mid-semester, out of the blue. She reassured me in her calm way that we did the best we could and tomorrow would be a better day. I have never had a teacher so personally and individually meet my child’s needs.”

This level of care is the foundation of Payne’s teaching philosophy. She not only creates a classroom culture where mistakes are embraced as part of learning, but she also makes each child feel seen and understood. Whether it’s guiding students through their academic pursuits or offering emotional support, Payne ensures her students feel safe, loved, and ready to face each new day.

This honor follows on the heels of her achievement last year: Payne was named Provo City School District 2024 Teacher of the Year, too, earning accolades within our community. Shari is more than an excellent teacher; she is a figure whose impact ripples over generations. Shari Payne’s classroom is a longstanding space of safety and support.
