Hello, Provo City. I am Superintendent Dau from the Provo City School District. Today is Tuesday, February 18th. I apologize for my raspy voice. We all know what’s going around. Each of us has probably had an encounter with the crud this winter, and so it’s just my turn. I hope all of you had a great Valentine’s Day.

And a fantastic long weekend. I just want to highlight just a lot of the efforts that take place in Provo City School District by our employees. Just a huge shout out to our Night of Dance that was held at Provo High and it featured dance companies from Provo and from Timpview, from Shoreline, from Centennial, from Wasatch Elementary.

And just recognizing the amount of time and energy that it takes, not only for parents to invest all of this in their children. But also for our advisors and our coaches to invest in our kids in this way to help them be part of something that is so incredible. Also want to give just a big shout out to our winter sports coaches.

Our basketball teams are in the state playoffs. They have playoff games this week. We also have wrestling just concluded last weekend for boys and girls wrestling. And we know just how much time that takes from our coaches and our parents. We know parents provide meals. We know that they’re doing all sorts of things to help support our athletes.

Our girls swim team at Provo High took fourth overall at state. Our Timpview girls took fifth overall at state. Timpview boys swim team finished sixth overall at state. Our Provo high boys basketball team has concluded their season, but our Provo girls basketball team is in the state playoffs.

They’re playing this week. They’ve advanced to the quarterfinals. So congratulations to them. They’re going to be playing Dixie high school later this week. Timpview girls are playing later this week, in the playoffs as well as Timpview boys are playing. So we just want you to know that there’s just a ton that goes into this.

We also have cheer. It’s just concluded state competitions and just the amount of time and energy and talent that our athletes have. And all of these students that are involved in these extracurricular activities, it takes a ton of adults to make this possible. We’re so grateful for that. We’re grateful for all of these individuals that come together to create these great experiences for students.

We know that our students that are involved have overall so much better success as a result, and we just want to highlight that. So congratulations to all of these individuals and to, and to our athletes and to our students who are involved in all of these different programs. Next week, I’ll highlight some more with our CTSOs.

It is still CTE awareness month and celebration month. And so we’ll talk more about those organizations next week. Just want you to be aware that at last week’s board meeting, we had initial findings on our boundary and feasibility study where they went through and identified the capacity, the capacities of each of our buildings and looked at overall efficiencies that we have with enrollment.

And so now a community survey is going to be going out. We hope that you will participate in that and help us understand what some of your priorities are. Is it the efficiency of the building that matters? Is it the opportunities and number of programs that matter? Is it making sure that we have neighborhood schools that are within walking distance to your children?

The thing that’s the most important, what, what are those pieces that you really value as a community? So that as we make decisions about how to be transparent and, and efficient with our taxpayer dollars, what does that look like as we’re also trying to create as many opportunities as we can for our students.

So if you want to see that, you can look at that presentation on our website. You can also watch that portion of the board meeting and go through that process, but there’s more to come as we get more results from that particular study. Last Thursday we had a meeting at Timpview High School, where board president Partridge and our business administrator, Devyn Daley, talked about the lease revenue bonds.

we are proposing for Timpview High School of 70 million dollars to finish of that building and to begin the planning phases of the Dixon site. We will have another meeting with that, Thursday February 20. That’s this Thursday at 6 o’clock p. m. at the old Dixon site in the auditorium where you can have your questions answered. We’ll do a short presentation but then most of the time will be spent for you to be able to ask questions.

We can show you how old bonds are falling off, what that does to property taxes, and we can get down into the nitty gritty so that you really understand what the impact of that will be. We did vote on some changes to our 2025 2026 calendar instead of school starting on a Tuesday next year is going to start on a Wednesday.

We will send you out an update with that change in there, we had forgotten to build in our compensation days for parent teacher conferences. So we’ll make sure all of that information goes out to you so that you have all of that in the next week or two and can plan accordingly.

We are pretty excited about our Parent Advisory Committee and our Community Connections Committees. Those invitations went out just yesterday. We hope that if you received an invitation to be on one of these committees that you will respond and will be able to support us in this. We want to stay very connected to the viewpoints of our community members.

Make sure that we’re representing our district as a whole and can get good feedback on the positions that we’re taking and the decisions that we are making as we move forward as a district. So we are already planning for next school year. We already are working with principals to determine what their F. T. E. What that means is how many teachers they get to hire based on projected enrollments so that they can post positions and be competitive in the hiring pool. We know that we want to get the most highly qualified teachers that we possibly can.

We will likely have some more announcements, in terms of a new principal for Centennial Middle School that will be coming up. Um, and if that creates any you know repercussions throughout the school community because we pull another principal or what that might look like that’s going to be coming your way as well so that we can communicate all of that information to you.

We do have another board meeting next Tuesday and I’ll review all of the agenda items at our next video cast. But with that, we just want to say thank you for your support of Provo City School District. Thank you for your support of public education. We are very dedicated to this cause to create as many opportunities as we can for kids.

And as always, we are here to support and help in whatever way that we can. So have a great week, everyone.
