The Covey Center for the Arts rolled the red carpet out last week for the Centennial and Shoreline Middle School Art Reception.
Shoreline Middle School Art Teachers Jeremy Harris and Jake Gilmore attended, engaging with community members and students alike to offer commentary as Fox Channel 13 news filmed portions of the event, featuring a brief segment during the evening news.
Students stood quietly in front of their framed paintings, eyes tracing over details painstakingly laid to canvas; over their shoulders, family members leaned in, too, tracing over those exact details with admiration. Our middle school students embraced the challenge of creating art for a local gallery, and they’ve filled the gallery from corner to corner with well-crafted works born of honed intent; we commend them for their work, and thank our teachers for delivering this unique, collaborative experience.
For many students, this is their first time receiving recognition for their art. For many, it will not be the last, a primer for these students to dash their proverbial mark on the art world in the coming years.
The Covey Arts exhibit remains open for public viewing. Art enthusiasts can also look forward to upcoming spring art receptions for Timpview and Provo High in February and March, respectively.
