Empathy in Art: Rock Canyon’s 4th Grade Winner, Sadie Gwilliam

Over the course of this school year, students from all over the district have participated in a special art contest. Students from Kindergarten to High School created works of art that evoke empathy and understanding. A wide range of art was accepted, from poster sized artwork, ceramic bowls, and 3d welded sculptures.

Each entry was judged inside its age bracket (1-2 grade, 3-4 grade, 5-6 grade, middle school, high school), and overall district winners were selected.

Congratulations, Sadie Gwilliam of Rock Canyon Elementary for your outstanding and hopeful work of art!

Sadie’s beautiful and colorful piece was created to bring hope and happiness to those who saw it. At Rock Canyon, the Art Teacher, Lynne Harrington encouraged the students to create art that would lift up the viewer with the promise that the winners would have their pieces framed and hung at the food bank.

The thought that Sadies piece would be seen by those in need made her reflect on the troubles in her own life, and the way that pictures full of beautiful things could brighten her day.

La empatía en el arte: La ganadora de 4º grado de Rock Canyon, Sadie Gwilliam

A lo largo de este curso escolar, alumnos de todo el distrito han participado en un concurso de arte especial. Los alumnos, desde el jardín de infancia hasta el instituto, han creado obras de arte que evocan la empatía y la comprensión. Se aceptó una amplia gama de arte, desde obras de arte del tamaño de un póster, cuencos de cerámica y esculturas soldadas en 3D.

Cada obra se juzgó dentro de su categoría de edad (1-2 grados, 3-4 grados, 5-6 grados, escuela media, escuela secundaria), y se seleccionaron los ganadores generales del distrito.

Enhorabuena, Sadie Gwilliam de Rock Canyon Elementary por su extraordinaria y esperanzadora obra de arte.

La hermosa y colorida obra de Sadie fue creada para traer esperanza y felicidad a quienes la vieron. En Rock Canyon, la profesora de arte, Lynne Harrington, animó a los estudiantes a crear arte que elevara al espectador con la promesa de que los ganadores tendrían sus piezas enmarcadas y colgadas en el banco de alimentos.

La idea de que la obra de Sadies fuera vista por los necesitados le hizo reflexionar sobre los problemas de su propia vida, y la forma en que los cuadros llenos de cosas bonitas podían alegrar su día.
