Students in the Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship course at the Provo CAPS (Center for Advanced Professional Studies) program launched their first food truck project at Provo High School’s football game last month. The event marked an exciting milestone as Dane McClellan, Daynen Staker, and Davis Gunnell applied what they’ve learned in the classroom to the real world.

These students worked tirelessly to plan, prepare, and serve nachos, sodas, and hot chocolate to football fans. Janell Flake from the Provo City School District Child Nutrition Department guided their efforts, supervising the project and offering critical planning assistance.

“The students handled everything from researching costs and supplies to marketing their offerings during the game,” said Flake. “It was rewarding to see them take ownership of the project and deliver such impressive results.”

The project’s success was evident in their financial results. Not only did the students recover their capital investment, but they also doubled their profits, developed vital soft skills necessary to work as a team, and gained authentic entrepreneurial skills which they’ll use to enrich and support our community.

“We weren’t sure what to expect, but the turnout and the feedback from customers were amazing,” said one of the students. “This was a great opportunity to learn about running a business and serving the community.”

The food truck initiative is part of the CTE (Career and Technical Education) and CAPS programs’ commitment to providing hands-on, career-focused experiences. Through this project, students gained invaluable insights into inventory management, customer service, and profit analysis– all within a real-world setting.

Provo High’s football crowds enjoyed delicious snacks while supporting the students’ efforts, creating a win-win scenario for all involved. With this success, the CAPS program is already looking forward to expanding the food truck project and exploring other entrepreneurial ventures in the future.

The food truck will make its next appearance at the CAPS Showcase on Monday, Dec. 9 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Nu Skin Enterprise Building Pavilion, located at the northeast corner of 100 South and Freedom Boulevard. The students are excited to share their journey and offer tasty treats to showcase their hard work and achievements.

Don’t miss the chance to support these future business leaders as they continue to apply their talents and grow their entrepreneurial spirit!
