Canyon Crest’s Librarian, Launa Naylor

To continue celebrating library month, we’d like to tell you all about another phenomenal librarian in our district.

Launa Naylor, the librarian at Canyon Crest, loves books, reading, and children through and through. It’s in her blood. She is an avid reader both at school and at home. She reads the new books that come into the library because she loves reading, but mostly so that she can suggest books to kids who are looking for something good to read. She knows what’s in her library and she directs students to what they are looking for and does it with excitement and enthusiasm. Mrs. Naylor knows that if she can get the kids to love reading when they are young, it will be a lifelong joy.

Mrs. Naylor makes the library so fun, happy, and inviting, always making new and amazing things for the library such as the new book jacket train that now lines the upper walls of the library. She made tons of paper cranes one year to create cool hanging mobiles to hang from the library ceiling. She decorates for the seasons and makes really cool signs from trees, framed art from puzzles that she had students help put together, and lots of other things to make the library a place that the kids love to be. Cheerleading for all students and their reading and learning process, Mrs. Naylor knows each student by name.

For years Mrs. Naylor has encouraged our Canyon Crest students to improve their reading and comprehension skills by holding a “Battle of the Books” competition for the third through sixth graders. It is always so fun to see the enthusiasm and knowledge the students have as they compete in these “battles”. This year EVERY student in the third through sixth participated in the Battle of the Books. 100%! This was a first for Canyon Crest, to have every student compete, and today they are competing on the district level. This is the kind of enthusiasm and encouragement that Launa Naylor brings to Canyon Crest as she supports the students and teachers.

When asked about their librarian Canyon Crest state, “We love Mrs. Naylor and the love and care that she puts into her teaching and interactions with our students. Her passion for reading is contagious!”

Para seguir celebrando el mes de las bibliotecas, nos gustaría hablarles de otra fenomenal bibliotecaria de nuestro distrito.

Launa Naylor, la bibliotecaria de Canyon Crest, ama los libros, a leer, y a los niños por completo. Su pasión por la literatura lo lleva en su sangre. Es una ávida lectora tanto en la escuela como en casa. Lee los libros nuevos que llegan a la biblioteca porque le encanta leer, pero sobre todo para poder sugerir libros a los niños que buscan algo bueno para leer. Sabe lo que hay en su biblioteca y dirige a los alumnos hacia lo que buscan y lo hace con ilusión y entusiasmo. La Sra. Naylor sabe que si logra que los niños se apasionen por la lectura cuando son pequeños, será un placer para toda la vida.

La Sra. Naylor hace que la biblioteca sea divertida, alegre y atrayente, siempre haciendo cosas nuevas y sorprendentes para la biblioteca, como el nuevo tren de cubiertas de libros que ahora está en lo alto de las paredes de la biblioteca. Un año hizo muchísimas grullas de papel para crear unos móviles colgantes preciosos que colgaban del techo en la biblioteca. Decora para las temporadas y hace letreros muy bonitos de los árboles, cuadros con rompecabezas que los estudiantes ayudan a armar, y muchas otras cosas para hacer que la biblioteca sea un lugar en el que los niños adoren estar. La Sra. Naylor conoce a cada estudiante por su nombre y es la más grande cheerleader de los procesos sobre la lectura y el aprendizaje.

Por años la Sra. Naylor ha animado a los estudiantes de Canyon Crest a que mejoren sus habilidades de lectura y comprensión organizando una competencia de “Batalla de los Libros” para los estudiantes de tercero a sexto grado. Siempre es muy divertido ver el entusiasmo y el conocimiento que tienen los estudiantes cuando compiten en estas “batallas”. Este año TODOS los alumnos de tercero a sexto participaron en la Batalla de los Libros. ¡100%! Fue la primera vez para Canyon Crest, que todos los estudiantes compitieron, y hoy compiten a nivel de distrito. Este es el tipo de entusiasmo y motivación que Launa Naylor trae a Canyon Crest al apoyar a los estudiantes y profesores.

Cuando se le preguntó por su bibliotecaria, Canyon Crest declaró: “Nos encanta la señora Naylor y el amor y cariño que pone en su forma de enseñar y de interactuar con nuestros alumnos. Su pasión por la lectura es contagiosa”.
