April 18th Diversity & Equity Speaker Series Event LGBTQ+

Join us for a discussion to better understand the LGBTQ+ community and to bring awareness to some of the challenges that this community faces.

Look forward to:

• An hour-long presentation on YouTube.
• LGBTQ+ general information (flags, terms, statistics in Utah, and other topics) presented by Encircle.
• Multiple speakers will share their experiences in the LGBTQ+ community in PCSD.
  • There will be two parents, one former employee, and one ally speaking.

About the Panelists

Chelsea Cellar

Chelsea (she/her) worked in Provo City Schools as an art teacher at Dixon Middle School for nine years. During that time, she helped Brian Yazzie form Provo’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee and was president of it for a year. She was also happy to do a few training sessions for various staff members to make classrooms and schools welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ students. Chelsea is bisexual and married to a transgender man who taught in Provo for three years. They moved at the end of the 20-21 school year to live in her home state of Ohio, but miss Provo and Utah dearly! She works as an elementary art teacher at Buckeye Valley but will happily return to teaching middle school next year.

Camlyn Giddins

Camlyn’s love for people translated into studying film and media arts. Being raised in a home of arts and social work, Camlyn loves the transformation that happens through relationships, art, and learning. Camlyn is in her fourth year of teaching film, photography, race and culture, and other electives at Walden School of Liberal Arts. She simultaneously works at Encircle Provo as Community Engagement Manager, where she hosts events and trainings that invite conversation and understanding. Camlyn currently lives in Orem, though she has roots from several places.

Danny Caldwell & Ty Brian

Danny and Ty are parents to three children, who are all students at Sunset View Elementary. Danny and Ty were born and raised in Utah and love their state. They are members of the LGBTQ Advisory Committee, and both work in other diversity projects and committees in their professional lives. Danny works as a mental health professional, and Ty works in banking. They are excited to be part of this forum and hope their story can inspire others to live their authentic lives.

Acerca de los panelistas

Chelsea Cellar

Chelsea (ella/él) trabajó en las escuelas de la ciudad de Provo como profesora de arte en la escuela media Dixon durante nueve años. Camlyn Giddins

Camlyn vive actualmente en Orem, aunque tiene raíces de varios lugares.

Danny Caldwell y Ty Brian

Danny y Ty son padres de tres hijos, todos ellos alumnos de la escuela primaria Sunset View. Danny y Ty nacieron y crecieron en Utah y aman su estado.
