The first day of school has passed and the excitement is dying down as students around the district settle in for and another great year of learning. At Rock Canyon and Sunset View, the first day of school also meant the first day in a new building and the excitement levels at both schools have been high all week.
Rock Canyon hosted a fun back to school night where students and their parents had a chance to get a good look at their new school along side their beloved roadrunner mascot.
On the first day of school, principal Dean Nielsen welcomed students the same way the very first Rock Canyon principal, Lincoln Card, did in 1964, by ringing the original handheld school bell.
Sunset View also hosted a fun back to school night giving all a chance to familiarize themselves with their new school. For their first day of school, Sunset View pulled out all the stops with a red carpet affair. Students and parents were warmly greeted while walking the red carpet to an opening day assembly held in their brand new beautiful gym. Chris Chilcoat, their new principal, then welcomed them all to school, introduced the students and parents to their teachers and dismissed students to class.
It has been a great first week of school. We are especially happy to have our new beautiful schools up and running and would like to thank our community for the support that made it possible.
