Amelia Earhart had 5 amazing sixth graders compete in the Central Utah STEM fair on Tuesday. These students included Axel, James, Raymie, Sydney and Erick.
Two of these students walked away with trophies; Erick Sotelo won 1st place in the computer science category and Sydney Jarvis won overall grand champion in the Earth and Environmental Science category.
These students started out by competing in their school’s STEM fair, where they were able to proceed to the District STEM fair if selected. Those that placed at the District STEM Fair were then chosen to compete at the Central Utah Fair. Following the Central Utah Fair, both Erick and Sydney will now have the opportunity to compete in the National Competition.
Participation in STEM programs allows students the opportunity to gain further interest in subjects such as science, technology, engineering, and math. It also provides them with the ability to develop important skills like critical thinking and collaboration.
Congratulations to all of these hard-working students and we wish Erick and Sydney good luck as they get ready to compete on the National level!
