Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have to pre register for a class?
- Yes. Please assist us by pre-registering for classes so we may adequately prepare teachers, facilities and materials.
- How much does a class cost?
- Generally, all courses sponsored by Provo City School District cost $20.00.
- Can I get a refund?
- Fees will be returned upon request if a class fails to carry or the applicant cancels one week before the first class meeting.
- How much credit do I receive for each class?
- Required classroom hours for credit are:
- 7 clock hours = .5 semester hour
- 14 clock hours = 1 semester hour
- 21 clock hours = 1.5 semester hour
- What if I have to miss some classes?
- Participants must attend all sessions of an inservice class in order to qualify for credit. The instructor's roll verifies credit earned. Emergency situations can be discussed with each individual instructor.
- I'm a classified employee, can I take a class?
- All classified employees are encouraged to take any professional development class that would help them in their current job situation. Instead of earning credit a classified employee is paid $8.00 per hour up to a total of 24 hours per school year.
Professional Development Code of Conduct
- Visitors of all ages are inappropriate. Only registered participants may attend classes.
- Be on time. Class will start on time and resume on time following breaks. Be in your seat ready to start.
- Be in class. Credit and materials will only be given for 100% attendance. Do not plan other activities that will require you to leave early or come late to class
- Be prepared. Be aware of materials you may need and bring them with you.
- Be on task. Be a participant in what is happening in class. Activities not related to the professional development work such as grading papers, preparing lesson materials, knitting, fly tying, writing letters, talking on cell phones, and other similar activities are inappropriate. Cell phones should be turned off during class time. Grades will be based on level of participation and quality of work.
- Be supportive. Remember the instructor is a professional colleague.
