Thor Christianson, an 8th grade student at Centennial Middle School, is helping his peers include students with disabilities. The focus of his project is to include those with disabilities in everyday activities, especially at school, and aid students to better understand how to interact with disabled persons.

Christianson was inspired by his 10-year-old sister who has Down Syndrome. “Whatever we do, we include her,” Christianson said. His family experience prompted him to help other students understand and integrate students that are different from themselves.

On his website students can become certified through an online training.“Learn about how wonderful it is to have a friend with a disability,” welcomes visitors to the site.

Small modifications are often all it takes to help persons with disabilities have the capacity to participate in activities.

Christianson extends the invitation to all, “now, find someone at your school or neighborhood, and invite them to do something with you. Remember, small changes can make a big difference.”

Congratulations to Thor for his Eagle Scout project. Thank you for your hard work!
